I love to sketch while on holidayl. Usually people around the pool or out and about, enjoying the sunshine.
They come in all shapes and sizes - though often seem to be about the same height when they appear in my sketch pad!
With short sleeves, I sometimes notice the little round, white patch that suggests the wearer may be checking their blood sugar.
But, apart from that, it's virtually impossible to spot someone with diabetes ... especially Type 1 which has no link to lifestyle.
OK the big guy might be more likely to have Type 2 ... but any of them, slim or tubby, tall or short, fit or otherwise, might have Type 1.
It is a truly hidden disease - hidden, that is, from everyone except the sufferer and their nearest and dearest.
Every year, there is a little progress made to find a cure. Managing it is simply not enough.
This is why I contribute part of my (so called) profits from my paintings to a Diabetes charity.
If you buy something .... I hope you enjoy it. That's the key thing. But, you have my thanks for also helping
to bring this terrible disease to an early end.
